All That's Gay in Weymouth

LGBT residents and visitors to Weymouth have a new web site to help them enjoy their time in the town.

“There is so much going on now in our area for LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans) visitors”, said Colin who helps to organize the Weymouth Gay Group.

Colin continued, "We put all the local LGBT events and info on our web site. Weymouth needs to catch up with seaside towns like those in Devon and Bournemouth, but Brighton may be difficult - it leads the way. The Pink pound is up for grabs! – and why should not Weymouth market itself as a more LGBT friendly place than it has been perceived in the past.”

“We are now blessed with a gay bar in Weymouth, The Closet, which is thriving!  Watch out for them in the Weymouth carnival (Aug 20) with the rainbow flags! At the end of August we have the Dorchester Love Parade, a well established event now.  The recent annual Bournemouth gay pride attracts thousands every year and fills all the hotels there! Why can’t that be the same here? Weymouth needs to put its old fashioned attitudes and image aside and embrace the modern diversity of 2014, if it is to benefit from the pink pound.”

The Weymouth Gay Group has been meeting up in local pubs for over 7 years and welcomes local and visiting LGBT and straight people to its informal social gatherings.

Colin finally adds, “On our website we have an information/helpline page tailored to the needs of local LGBT people, everything from youth, health, and many life issues.  It would be nice to add local hotels and B&Bs there. If you are visiting our area and identify as being LGBT then I hope you will find our group and web site welcoming – and also ALL of Weymouth”.
